Protection - Prevention - Rejuvenation
Skin
rejuvenation is the active process whereby the appearance
of the skin is improved and the signs of ageing reduced.
The process embraces the following concepts, namely
Prevention, Treatment and Maintenance of Healthy Skin.
Many
abnormalities in the skin are caused by years of Environmental
Damage.
The damaging factors are:
Pollution
The
use of harsh chemicals on the skin (i.e. soaps)
Excessive
exposure of the skin to harsh sunlight (this contributes
to 80% of skin ageing)
Smoking
and alcohol consumption
Genetic
ageing amounts to only 20% of the process.
Chronic
exposure to harsh sunlight and to chemical irritants
gives rise to the following change within the skin:
The dead outer layer of the epidermis becomes thicker
and dryer, resulting in dull looking skin and the
formation of fine wrinkles. The pigment containing
cells within the skin, namely the melanocytes, clump
together abnormally, giving rise to discolored patched
on the skin known as "Pigmentation Disorder"
(hyper or hypo pigmentation). Breakouts of spots or
pimples occur because the opening of the oil glands
are blocked by dead skin cells, trapping debris and
bacteria which multiply. Deep wrinkles appear as a
result of damage to the collagen and elastin framework
within the skin. The skin becomes fryer beginning
at the hairline and moving toward the cheeks. The
pores enlarge as the skin undergoes these changes.
Improvement
of skin damage can be encouraged by using an effective
skin care programme. Our Aesthetic Skin Care Products
& Chemical Peels help to do this and to subsequently
maintain the skin at optimal health.
